Goodbye November

Any one else glad to put this one in the books? November 2016 has been a tough one for a number of reasons (insert election woes here). While I started off the month with a the best of plans to accomplish my goals, I underestimated how hard it was going to be . . .

My full time (paying job) experienced a bit of a staffing crisis these last six months and the worst of it came during November. While I’m not one of the ones who clocked in the most overtime, I was definitely in the running with almost sixty hours. Mix that with writing and working nightshift and you can imagine the amount of patience my boyfriend has needed in order to put up with me–to say nothing of my co-workers.

nanowrimo_2016_webbadge_winnerI’m happy to report that NaNoWriMo 2016 was a success! Is my first draft complete? Ummm . . . no. I have a few more scenes to write to then it will be. I did make the goal of over 50,000 words so I officially ‘won’ again this year. Once I’ve finished these last scenes, I’ll let it sit for awhile then begin the harrowing editing phase.

Speaking of edits. That’s what December holds. Many of you know I hired a freelance editor to take a look at Secrets Below so I can get it polished for querying. I’m still very excited about this project and hope to have it ready to send out soon. Before it meets the world, I’ve got a lot of work ahead to make it the best police procedural it can be.

I’m optimistic that December is going be a tad less busy and less dramtic (unless this election thing keeps rearing it’s ugly head). I’ve got a new plan and hopefully by January a new book to send out into the query trenches in earnest.

I’d love to hear how everyone else weathered last month. Did you participate in NaNoWriMo? Did you curl up into a ball of depression over the election? Anyone have a great November they can share?

I'd love to hear from you
